Website Optimisation
Technical work that makes your site easier for Google and AI assistants to understand. Paid for by the work done, not by promises about where you will rank.
I will not sell you SEO with a guaranteed position, because nobody can honestly offer that. What I will do is fix the technical reasons a site underperforms and tell you plainly what was wrong and what changed.
What This Covers
Structured data
The code that tells search engines what a page actually is – a product with a price and stock level, an article with an author, a business with an address. Most small sites have none or have it filled with placeholder values left over from a plugin setup.
This matters more every month. AI assistants read structured data directly when answering questions and a site without it is invisible to that route entirely.
Page structure
Headings in a sensible order, one main heading per page, questions marked up as questions. Sounds trivial. It is the difference between a page Google can lift an answer from and a wall of text it has to guess at.
Core Web Vitals
Real loading performance as Google measures it. Covered in more detail on the speed page and it forms part of this work too.
Internal linking
Making sure the pages that earn you money are actually linked from the pages that get visitors. This is the most commonly missed thing I see. A site will have an article pulling thousands of visits a month that links to nothing you sell.
Broken links and redirects
Dead links, redirect chains, pages that moved without anyone telling Google. Old URLs that return errors are throwing away visitors you already earned.
Titles and descriptions
What people actually see in search results. Frequently truncated, duplicated across pages or still describing a service the business stopped offering years ago.
What I Will Not Do
- Promise you a position for a keyword
- Buy links or put your site in directories nobody reads
- Fill your pages with repeated phrases that read badly to humans
- Charge you a monthly fee indefinitely for a report you do not read
Rankings move for reasons outside anyone’s control and a competitor can outspend you tomorrow. Technical work is different. It either got done or it did not and you can see the result.
How It Works
I start by looking at what the site is already doing well, because that is usually where the fastest gains are. A page that already ranks and already gets visitors but sends none of them anywhere useful is worth more attention than a page nobody has ever found.
Then the technical work, in order of what is costing you most. You get told what was changed and why, in language that makes sense.
An Example
On a spare parts site I worked on recently, one page was pulling over a hundred thousand impressions a year and contained no links to anything the business sold. Another had a price list for a service the company had stopped offering entirely, still live, still telling people to post their equipment in.
Neither of those is a ranking problem. Both were costing real money and both were fixable in an afternoon.
What It Costs
- Businesses – £150 per hour, one hour minimum
- Private individuals – £120 per hour, one hour minimum
- After the first hour, charged in half hours
This is normally bought as a block of hours rather than an ongoing retainer, because most of the value is in fixing things once and fixing them properly.
Analysis and reporting are chargeable in their own right. Finding out what is wrong with a site takes the same work whether or not you go on to have it fixed and the tools I use to produce that report are paid for. You get a written report either way, which is yours to keep.
If you would rather have it looked after continuously, the maintenance packages include time each month that can be spent this way.
What I Need To Get Started
- Your website address
- WordPress admin login
- Google Search Console access if you have it, which shows what you already rank for
- Which pages or products make you the most money
That last one shapes everything. Optimising the pages you care about beats optimising the whole site evenly.
Who I Work With
Private customers and small to medium sized businesses. That is the work I am set up for and the work I am good at.
I do not take on corporate contracts. Development teams, sign-off processes and layers of project management are a different job to this one. If that is what you need, I am not the right person and I would rather tell you now than find out halfway through.
